Ubong Friday rapidly becoming key component at Akwa United after scoring in Gombe United win

Akwa United captain, Ubong Friday, has reacted after netting his second goal of the season in Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Gombe United.

The current league champions went into the game following a 1-1 draw at Shooting Stars over the weekend and continued with their unbeaten run in Wednesday’s win over Gombe United, to make it two wins and one draw from three games.

Ubong Friday’s goal came in the 80th minutes from the spotkick after Gombe United defender, Innocent Christian, deflected a cross with his hand right inside the penalty area.

The skipper then stepped up and calmly slotted home to hand the Promise Keepers all maximum three points.

Making his reaction during his post-game interview, Friday told Lodgexpress;

“It was an important win for the team. We worked hard and did everything to break the strong defence of Gombe United.

“It’s a momentum we will try and go on with it. On a personal note, I’m very delighted to have scored in today’s win, my second goal of the season.

It was a very tough decision to want to take the penalty and after I stood up against the goalkeeper, I only had one option to score and fortunately for me, it went right inside”.

Friday has made a strong start to life in Akwa United this season, and in all of the three appearances he has made so far, he has already made quite an impression.

The high-flying winger was always going to become a key player for Kennedy Boboye’s men—eventually—but few could have imagined he’d settle down this quickly.

He has scored twice and assisted twice in three appearances so far this season.
