As the Nigeria Professional Football League 2021/2022 season gets to Matchday 15 this weekend, LODGEXPRESS has put together the top five attacking midfield players who have so far impressed since the start of the season.
As we prepare for games across various centres this weekend, these are some of the players you should be monitoring.
1. Adewale Lasisi (DAKKADA FC)
After a series of stellar displays in the first ten games in the Nigeria Professional Football League, Lasisi will be keen on stealing the show and further boosting his reputation as the season proceeds.
Inasmuch as Lasisi is tasting the NPFL for the very first time the playmaker has immediately cemented himself as a mainstay in Dakkada’s squad and it’s easy to see why.
Deep inside of him is Iniesta-esque playmaking abilities as he’s able to distribute the ball with much ease across any area of the pitch, whilst also causing havocs for his opponents with his solid dribbling skills.
His forward pressing prowess and cutting the opponent’s passing lanes are also incredibly good for a player his age.
He’s definitely one to watch as the season proceeds.
2. Austine Oladapo (ENYIMBA FC)
Enyimba Football Club has a fairly solid football team on their hands this season with their skipper Oladapo possibly being their most impactful player.
The Nigerian man is a pacy midfielder who boasts the ability to jolt past players with ease.
It’s also fair to say that he also boasts of mesmerising ball control, which he’ll be keen on showing throughout the course of the season.
Enyimba boss, Finidi George is sure to grant Oladapo the freedom to roam across various positions on the pitch in a bid to express himself and in turn, render torments on Enyimba’s opponents.
3. Seth Mayi (AKWA UNITED)
NPFL title winner, Seth Mayi has been handed the difficult task of providing Akwa United’s attack with play from the middle – and so far, he has not faltered in his role.
Mayi possesses a perfect balance of composure and aggression, which allows him to keep Akwa United’s midfield on lockdown without making erratic mistakes and without giving his opponents too much leeway to run past him.
The midfielder has featured in almost all the league games for Akwa United this season and has played a major role in their push to retain the NPFL title.
He’s expected to be an important figure in the heart of the Promise Keepers’ midfield in the coming games.
4. Tochukwu Michael (NASARAWA UTD)
Ace Nigerian midfielder Michael Tochukwu is Nasarawa United’s secret weapon. The deep-lying playmaker is perfectly poised to shine in the remaining fixtures this season the same way he’s been shining since the start of the current campaign for his side.
Tochukwu has been deployed across a variety of positions for Nasarawa United this season.
He’s been used as a defensive midfielder, as a left-winger and as an attacking midfielder, and he’s thrived in every single position, which is a testament to his versatility.
He’s made five assists and has scored three times and has also won Man of the Match Award on three occasions so far this term and Nasarawa United will be hoping he can replicate those stats in all of their subsequent league games.
5. Shedrack Asiegbu (RANGERS INT’L)
Rangers International Football Club midfielder Shedrack Asiegbu has made a comeback from injury and will be in line to feature for the Flying Antelopes this Sunday when they welcome Kano Pillars in Nnewi, and knowledgeable observers around the Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium have long earmarked the playmaker as an amazing player with great character.
A relative early bloomer in footballing terms, Shedrack Asiegbu has been playing NPFL football for a couple of seasons and it has not taken him long to make a positive impression in Rangers’ exciting side, though.
He is noted for his work ethic and offensive qualities in the heart of the midfield, but also his fierce left foot when given the chance to shoot.
