Sunshine Stars striker, Samuel Agba has spoken about his career as a professional football, his experience in the Nigeria Professional Football League, his challenges and as well as a suggestion to the League Management Company in an exclusive interview session with Lodgexpress.
The prolific striker who’s had stints with different clubs in the top tier division of the Nigeria football league had this to say;
Lodgexpress: Tell us your name and State of origin
Sam Agba: My name’s Samuel Agba and I’m from Cross Rivers State
Lodgexpress: You’ve been in the front light as a football player, how many clubs have you played for so far?
Sam Agba: I’ve rocked the jersies for Bayelsa United, Kaduna United, Enugu Rangers, Nasarawa United, Gombe United, Niger Tornadoes, Yobe Desert Stars, El Kanemi Warriors, Jigawa Golden Stars and currently with Sunshine Stars.
Lodgexpress: That’s awesome and really quite a tour in the NPFL, so tell us, who’s the football icon that has positively influenced your career as a footballer?
Sam Agba: I’ll say Joshua Obaje, an ex Nigerian international
Lodgexpress: And how well has he influenced you and your career?
Sam Agba: To be very sincere, if there’s been anyone that has so much encouraged me and have so much faith in me, then he’s definitely Joshua Obaje. He was always there to motivate me when the spirit was down, he helped me with kits and other provisions far too numerous to mention. I’ll always give it to him anytime and anyday, Joshua Obaje.
Lodgexpress: So touching, so which position to do thrive in?
Sam Agba: I operate from the outside left and at most times as a center forward.
Lodgexpress: Tell us about your childhood while playing football
Sam Agba: I had lots of amazing childhood memories that I could still remember and I recall playing the same grassroot club with the likes of Abia Warriors’ Godwin Obaje, Simon Moses, Innocent Bonke – he plays for Malmo in Sweden and also Emmanuel Eviemere…and many other professional players too.
Lodgexpress: You’ve for sure had this worst moment so far in your career, tell us about it
Sam Agba: Yeah it’s still fresh in my memory, I could still remember that moments, it was during my time at Bayelsa United and we lost the title to Kano Pillars in 2012, it really hurt. It was just a draw that we needed to clinch the league but twas so sad we lost to Gombe United and Kano Pillars beat Katsina United.
Lodgexpress: That was really a sad moment, so tell us, if you hadn’t been a professional football player, which other profession would you find yourself in?
Sam Agba: Politics! Yea, I love Politics so I’ll definitely be there if I wasn’t here
Lodgexpress: What’s your best football quote(s)?
Sam Agba: Simple, “Jesus is my secret”
Lodgexpress: You’re quite experienced in the league and what advice would you communicate to the League Management Company (LMC) that if followed, will upgrade the Nigeria Professional Football League?
Sam Agba: There’re many areas that needs attention but I’ll really stress on the area of players welfarism, it’s an area that really really needs attention
Lodgexpress: In one word, how will you describe Sam Agba?
Sam Agba: He’s a star 🌟
Lodgexpress: If you’re to mention your best eleven in the NPFL, who would they be?
Sam Agba: In goal I’ll go with Emmanuel Uwabulu, my backline will be made up of Samuel Ganda at right back, Timothy Simon occupies the left-back while Pape Ousmane and Semiu Laidi forms the solid partnering. In the midfield, I’ll have the trio of Habib Yakubu, Austin Oladapo and Sadeeq Yusuf. My frontline will have the likes of Samuel Agba – of course myself, Godwin Obaje and Thomas Zenke and my formation would be 4-3-3.
Lodgexpress: Awesome! and your word to your teeming fans??
Sam Agba: To my fans, I’ll just say I’ll keep working hard to ensure that the million naira worth of smile on their faces never ends, God see us through
Lodgexpress: And your message to the up and coming football players and those who look up to your as their role model would be?
Sam Agba: I believe patience and hard-work are some of those essential and vital attributes a person must possess while on a journey to success and stardom and also, unperturbed concentration, focus and dedication is required from them as these are the tools they’ll need to go against their challenges which must definitely come

Sam Agba: Plying his trade for one of the best clubs/leagues in the world, by God’s willing
