Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford was delighted for English youngster Shola Shoretire.
The 17-year-old attacker came on late against Newcastle United, replacing Rashford in the 89th minute with the Red Devils already leading 3-1 up.
And Rashford says Shoretire was even younger than he was when he made his debut for United under former boss Louis van Gaal.
“He’s even younger than I was,” joked Rashford in an interview with MUTV.
“It’s a top moment, when a young player makes his debut they kick on from that and hopefully we see the same from him.
“He’s got a lot of quality, the more often he trains with us and plays with us he’s going to feel relaxed and can show his quality on the pitch.”
Rashford added: “In the academy they always emphasise following in footsteps.
“It’s something I always took great acknowledgement of when I was a youngster wanting to get in the first team. It’s a cycle and hopefully the younger ones now will see him playing and they will kick on.”
