Rivers United offensive right-back Kazie Enyinnaya was overjoyed with their thumping win over Akwa United.
The Pride of Rivers thrashed the defending champions 4-1 on Sunday in matchday 19.
“We played very well this evening, as after that 0-0 draw at Gombe United there was the need to get back to winning ways and we did that with much ease against the league’s defending champions,” Kazie told Lodgexpress during his post game press conference.
“Instead, we started on the right foot and took an early 2-0 lead. Frankly, we could’ve scored more goals in the first 30 minutes. If our thought process is we are happy with 2-0, then there is always the risk of allowing a comeback. We need to remove that thought from our heads and always feel relaxed with maybe 3 or 4 goals lead.
“In order to be Rivers United and fight it out with Plateau United, Enugu Rangers, Remo Stars, Enyimba and even Akwa United, you need improvements on every level and above all players who are as good as our current squad.
“We are accustomed to Ishaq grabbing the goals, but they (Akwa United) ignored a more dangerous squad member after they all went to silence him and leave Akuneto the freedom to roam and got a hat-trick. We don’t have only one point man in the team and Akwa United paid dearly for ignoring Akuneto.

“It’s the ruthlessness in front of goal we’ve been clamouring for and we’re all stunned by the way we manhandled Akwa United. That’s the mindset you need to be a champion.”
