Rivers United midfield ace, Morice Chukwu has lavished praises on his teammates after they grabbed a point following a 1-1 draw with Lobi Stars in their opening game of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The Pride of Rivers took the lead mid into the game through Rafiu Ishaq in the 27th minutes before the host fought back and equalised through Barnabas Imenger Jr’s 47th minutes leveller.
And Chukwu who anchored the midfield of Rivers United, believes his teammates can use the draw as an inspiration going into their next fixture against Katsina United, who lost at home to Rangers Football Club.
“It was no doubt a hard game. Both sides tried to play and take the game to the other team and it was a little bit tense. But for the opening game, a 1-1 draw, I think we’ll be fine with the result’. The midfielder told Lodgexpress.
‘If you’ll ask me if we really needed the win, I’ll definitely say yes we wanted to win the game but they had their chances too. The players worked hard for the team and we got a result.
‘The pressure at maintaining a 1-0 lead can be so tensed especially when playing away from home but I think the team showed a lot of grit and determination and character to fight back.
‘We didn’t lose so we keep going. We have to use this as an inspiration heading into the next game on boxing day’.
