Akwa United skipper Ubong Friday has labelled Wednesday afternoon’s 1-0 victory at Remo Stars as one of the best performances so far this season.
The defending champions claimed all three points at Ikenne to move up to sixth on the table, thanks to a first-half goal from striker, David Onovo, prompting a jubilant reaction from Friday, who looked to have suffered a knock in the game.
“At first half especially we were in firm control of the game and it was one of our better performances of the campaign,” said Friday to Lodgexpress.com
“But to be honest, it was a little bit tense coming into the second half, we could have done with a second goal and maybe then we could have established a bit of supremacy and total dominance, but it was a huge three points and credit to everyone.
“The supporters from the bench played a huge part too. Our backline were fantastic as they defended every ball into the box as well.
“Everybody is pleased; it’s the start of a long road until the end of the campaign.”
Akwa United will hope to grab all three points this Sunday when they take on their struggling sister team, Dakkada Football Club, in a derby tie at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in matchday 14.
