LaLiga giants, Real Madrid are running on anger and revenge after their Champions League win over Atalanta on Tuesday night.
Madrid defeated Atalanta 3-1to rubber stamp their place in the last eight of the Champions League, and afterwards some of the players had a clear message for their detractors, as per Marca.
“They despise us, but we’re still alive” was heard at the end of the game, as rather than euphoria there was a sense of anger. And a lot of it.
The Real Madrid squad know that reaching the last 8 is far not the target, but Tuesday’s win over Atalanta did see optimism return to a dressing room that has had a tough time of it this term.
Zinedine Zidane’s men are the only Spanish team in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition, but they know that this is not enough.
With the team in Friday’s quarter-final draw, the budget for European competition has been met. Should they go on and reach the semi-finals, they would bring in 10.5 million euros on top of the already accumulated 34.75 million euros.
