FC Barcelona Ladies secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over English side, Manchester City ladies to set one foot in the semi finals of this season’s Champions League. Goals from ‘goal queen’, Asisat Oshoala, Mariona and Jenni Hermoso and a great penalty save from Sandra Paños were all the blaugranes needed to secure a well deserved victory ahead of the second leg in Manchester on 31 March, kick off at 5.00pm
Action in the first quarter saw Barça excelled and threatened to overrun their opponents in the first few minutes minutes. Asisat Oshoala, Aitana, Hansa, and Alexia all had their chances to open the scoring for the home side. Only some excellent denial from City’s goalie, Ellie Roebuck kept the score level.
Nevertheless, City came out firing on all cylinders and Sandra Paños in goal for Barça was heavily tested on a couple of occasions in the first quarter. Barcelona, nevertheless, would have their reward before the break with just 10 minutes to go when Nigeria deadliest attacker, Asisat Oshoala gave the blaugranes the lead at the break with a well placed finish at the near post.
Into the second half nothing really changed as Barça continued to dominate and create lots of chances. Oshoala came close to a second but was brought down in the box and Mariona stepped up to cooly convert the penalty to make it 2-0 on 52 minutes.
Manchester City had a great chance to draw one back when they were awarded a spot kick. Sandra Paños became the hero after coming to Barça rescue with a great stop to deny Kelly from the spot and the lead remained at 2-0.
With Barcelona still in control, the game looked to be sealed but the blaugranes made it three with just four minutes remaining. Jenni Hermoso capitalized on a rebound shot from Alexia after it had come back off the post to make the final score 3-0 to Barça.
