Abia Warriors summer signing, Ekemini Ekereuke, has made his return to action, three months after suffering a thigh injury in his right leg while at Akwa United last season.
The combative centre-back returned to first team training with the rest of the squad last Friday and appeared all smiles throughout the session.
“He has shown no signs of pains and participated actively in all of the training drills prior to the game against Sunshine Stars”. A medical personnel at the club told Lodgexpress.
Ekereuke is a complete and dominant defender, who is influential and rated by pundits as being one of the best and most talented defenders in the Nigeria topflight league.
Despite being an imposing and strong defensive, athletic and physical presence, he is also an extremely agile and elegant player, with excellent balance, ball skills, vision and passing ability for a defender, which allows him to drive the ball out of the defence and start plays from the back after winning back possession.
Although he is usually deployed as a centreback, Ekereuke initially started his career as a right-sided full back; his technical skills, athleticism and defensive ability made him a versatile player from a tactical standpoint, who is capable of playing anywhere along the backline, and also allows him to be utilized on the left, or even as a sweeper on occasion.
Ekereuke is also excellent in the air, and is really quick for a centreback; he stands out for his pace, acceleration, and stamina and was brilliant all through Akwa United’s title winning campaign.
