Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted with Thiago Alcantara’s impact in an advanced midfield role in win over Tottenham.
The Spanish playmaker has been playing deeper in past games, but got the chance to show his creative side against Spurs in the Premier League.
The Reds were comfortable 3-1 winners away from home, and Thiago put his stamp on the game with an excellent show.
Quizzed about Thiago’s role being tweaked, Klopp told reporters: “Of course we do that, what do you think we are doing? Just running in training or what?
“Of course we try to help them. Today we played a slightly different position, worked together with Millie and Gini on [the] six really well.
“That was a proper, proper performance. I know Thiago can be much better than tonight, but it was just an important step for all of us.
“The situation with Thiago was not easy: he came to Liverpool late, then ill, then injured, then playing immediately in a very decisive position.
“We thought for tonight it might make sense to play him slightly higher on the pitch.”
