Anietie Uko struck the winner as Shooting Stars won 1-0 over Nasarawa United on Sunday.
Uko’s 13th minute goal was the only difference between Shooting Stars and Nasarawa United as Edith Agoye’s men claimed a 1-0 win at Lekan Salami Stadium.
The Nigerian midfield maestro fired home a rifle shot from 25 yards to earn his side a narrow victory which put the pressure back on Enyimba who were held to a 0-0 draw at Wikki Tourists and drop to 10th position in the overall standings with 3SC occupying the 9th position with same points (26).
Reacting after the game, Uko who netted his first goal as a Shooting Stars player, told Lodgexpress;
“Everyone is excited to score his first and obviously the winning goal in a game. I’m glad it came at that time.
“It was a tough match. Nasarawa United tried to apply pressure but despite that we had chances to have gotten a second goal, which unfortunately we didn’t find. When you’re leading by 1-0 there is always some difficulty accompanied with maintaining it. Our players attitude was great and they put in a solid defensive display. We didn’t concede.”
Uko who was forced out of the pitch after 30 minutes with a minor muscle strain, added;
“I left the game due to minor muscle strain which I’m sure will bounce back soonest. I’m glad we’re heading for a break and that will serve as an opportunity to rest myself and get ready for the concluding round of the season.”
