Andrew Ikefe hails Plateau United defence after 1-0 win over Kano Pillars

Plateau United centre-back Andrew Ikefe has emphasised the importance of a strong backline in any team.

The defender, who is known for his forward pressing style of play, believes that keeping a clean sheet is just as vital as scoring goals.

Ikefe was speaking with Lodgexpress.com after they secured a 1-0 away victory over Kano Pillars away from home; their fourth consecutive wins, when he highlighted the importance of a solid defence.

“I’m delighted we’re scoring goals and winning our games, it’s always important to score one more goal than your opponent, but to maintain a clean sheet is also important for the confidence of the entire team,” Ikefe told Lodgexpress official website.

“When you secure a victory alongside a clean sheet, the entire team works very well, not only the backline. When we concede a goal, all of the team concedes a goal.

“If I’m told to choose our style of defending, I’ll say it is to press forward and not sit behind. When you sit too much at the back or you pack the bus from the beginning of the game, remember there’s always a long ball and anything can happen. We are improving this aspect.”
