Akwa United forward Stephen Chukwude has hailed the unity and team spirit in the Promise Keepers’ squad after Sunday’s win at Niger Tornadoes.
The ex Enyimba FC man was in action for 63 minutes before being replaced by Leo Ezekiel who grabbed the winner in the 68th minute to secure the 1-0 victory against Niger Tornadoes and was full of delight for his teammates after the vital triumph.
“You’ve seen the fighting spirit and togetherness in the team and you can see today from the bench that it’s a tight-knit squad we parade here,” he told Lodgexpress during a post-game presser.
“All those who came on from the bench made huge impact and all those who made the starting lineup gave their best for the well-deserved result.
“No one outside of the team really knows what we’re about, but I think we showed it to them today.”
Reacting to the goal from Leo Ezekiel who came on for him, Chukwude added;
“I think it was a really fantastic performance, we all knew we had to defend well and we did that really well from front to back.
“Leo’s goal too… he’s such a super-sub, matchwinner, a player who’s really good in front of goal and he did it for us.”
