Lobi Stars recorded a slight 1-0 win over the league’s defending champions, Akwa United during their matchday 5 fixture at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi, on Sunday January 9.
The Ortom Boys really needed to get back to winning ways after losing 3-0 in matchday four against Gombe United and it was a lone strike from Said Mubarak late in the game in the 83rd minutes that gave the host side all the maximum points.
One player who has really flourished since joining Lobi Stars this season is ace midfielder, Chinedu Ufere, who has now become an integral member of Eddy Dombraye’s set up and came really close to opening his scoring account after his shot was denied by the unmerciful cross bar following a save from veteran Akwa United shotstopper, Bamidele Ajiboye.
The central midfielder continued his excellent form of late with another dominant performance, and he looks to be almost unplayable when on form.
He put in a sparkling performance alongside Douglas Achiv and Duke Oshimaga, as the visitors found it impossible to deal with the way he dictated play.
He told Lodgexpress during a post-game press conference;
“At first I return all thanks to God, Akwa United didn’t make it easy for us. The game was a tough one but we really needed the win which was why we pushed them really hard and I’m glad the breakthrough came late in the game.
“It’s a very important result to us owning to the fact that our next two games are away from home.”
Lobi Stars next two matches comes up against Nasarawa United and Katsina United before returning to play host to Enyimba Football Club in matchday 8.
