Akwa United forward Stephen Chukwude highlighted goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka’s performance for their NPFL matchday 14 win over Dakkada Football Club.
Chukwude was not involved in the contest but watched from the crowd as Adewale pulled out strings of impressive saves for their 3-2 win.
“We’ll all agree that a lot of the credit goes to him, he’s a generous shotstopper with high quality, he works for the team in general,” Chukwude told Lodgexpress.com.
“Though we didn’t expect the game to go that way (conceding an early goal and conceding twice), I expected this type of performance from my teammates. Ade’s an exceptional guy and a top class shotstopper, he has the qualities to become the protagonist this season.
“It was an all important three points for us, I’m very delighted for the overall team performance, it was fantastic.
“It was 3-2 but we had the many shots and had more than 70 per cent possession – only towards the concluding minutes did we put risk in the game.
“We were lucky to have two big saves from Adewale against Lasisi – he’s no doubt one of the best ‘keepers in the league.”
The result means that Akwa United, the league’s defending champions, now occupies the fifth position on the table with 23 points from 14 games while Dakkada Football Club drops to 19th with 12 points from 14 games.
