Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal was delighted to kickoff the second-half of the season with a clean sheet.
Lawal was happy with the 1-0 win over Plateau United. He was huge between the sticks over the weekend, making a huge 4 saves, the majority of them incredibly sharp as well as playing 12 accurate long balls. If it wasn’t for him it could’ve been an uneventful day for the Sunshine Stars faithful.
“Ensuring we come out of the game with a clean sheet was one of the keys to winning. Plateau United are a high flying team and hadn’t lost their last 12 games. They have players that play very compact defensively, and have players who were going to create problems on the counter.
“It was a tough match, which needed a big effort, and in which our team did a great job to get a good result,” said Lawal during his post game interview with Lodgexpress.
“The quality that we have in our squad told and we got the deserved win to end their unbeaten run. It was important to keep a clean sheet and ensure they did not create many chances on the counter attack.”
Sunshine Stars are now sixth on the log, leapfrogging Akwa United who were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Rivers United.
