Sunshine Stars keeper Mustapha Lawal shrugs off individual glory after setting new clean sheets record

Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal has shrugged off his impressive clean sheets record this season.

Sunday’s 3-0 win against Dakkada marked the club’s seventh-successive clean sheet in the league and Lawal has now set a new record both in the club, becoming the first goalkeeper to win all his games without conceding a goal.

It also represented a new record of all games won in a particular league season with a clean sheet.

“It’s not just me or just the backline, the entire team deserves to take credit,” Lawal told Lodgexpress official website. “We all work hard for it.

“We don’t play for the record, of course, we just want to keep clean sheets all the time because when you do that, you have more chance of winning the games.

“This season we’ve had some busy games in the run like Niger Tornadoes away from home and Lobi Stars, games when we’ve had to work really hard for that clean sheet, so we’re all proud to set the record.

“On a personal note, I don’t think about records. I just want to help the team win the games. If the record comes, then that’s amazing, but I just think about the matches. I think we deserve it though because we’ve all worked so hard.”
