Sunshine Stars keeper Lawal: Niger Tornadoes victory and clean sheet showed our resilience

Sunshine Stars goalkeeper Mustapha Lawal believes his side worked very hard to win with a clean sheet away from home at Niger Tornadoes.

The Owena Whales put in an impressive display to grind out a battling 2-0 away win at the Ikon Allah Boys.

Despite Niger Tornadoes being a contender for the top three, they saw their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs dashed all thanks to David Onovo and Ibrahim Yusuf goals. They have put up a good fight in games against top sides this term.

“We have been working so hard,” Lawal who kept his sixth clean sheet told Lodgexpress.com.

“The last few weeks we’ve had some results that never deserved but the team have always stuck together.

“We’ve been working even harder than before and we showed today how resilient this squad is – getting back from a bad situation. This was a massive three points and back to a clean sheet again.

“That is the mentality that we have to show – everyone, not just experienced players. Obviously we can show the younger ones as well.

“This season was never easy from the onset but we come back, we are here again, we have got a great three points. Let’s enjoy it and let’s recover well for the all important one against Dakkada.”
