Remo Stars keeper Bankole: Plateau Utd victory crucial in top three race

Remo Stars goalkeeper Kayode Bankole admits victory at Plateau United was crucial in the top three battle.

The Sky Blues Stars had to come from behind to snatch a 2-1 win over the Peace Boys in a result that saw Daniel Ogunmodede’s side maintain their spot in the Nigerian Premier Football League top three.

The three points has proven to be crucial in an increasingly tight race for Super Six playoffs spot after their major rivals Akwa United secured a 2-0 home victory against El-Kanemi Warriors the same day.

Bankole who was very instrumental to the victory with a string of fine saves, knows that the victory was one that Remo Stars had to work hard for and expects more of the same as the final three race with Akwa United, currently one points in arrears, heats up.

“There was a massive relief at the end but there are going to be games like that in the near future (Super Six playoffs) but for now we are focused on finishing up the season strongly in our last home the end of the regular season,” he told Lodgexpress.com.

“It was really about getting the three points and it doesn’t matter how you do it. It was unarguably our best performance because we had to fight hard to come from a goal down to get the three points. Kayode added.

“There will be games where we just have to grind out results and they won’t be pretty. It’s all about getting the points on board, it doesn’t matter how you do it at this stage of the season.

“We needed that one today. We came out with a lot of energy and we needed a huge result, especially after receiving information at half-time that we had dropped to fourth. There was a bit of extra energy because of what we’ve worked hard for since the start of the season and we wanted to prove a point.

“[The top three race] going to come down to the end in our final fixture and we’re so excited and confident we can do it.”

The stunning victory over Plateau United ended their top three hopes and also resulted to their first league defeat at home since December 2020.

Remo Stars are still third on the table with just one point separating them from fourth placed Akwa United with just one game left to play.
