As the Nigeria Premier Football League 2023 season kick-off this Sunday, here is one player who could take the spotlight and be a great asset for his team:

Christian Molokwu (Gombe United): Full-back

Christian Molokwu is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a full-back or as a wing-back for Nigeria Premier Football League club Gombe United. A skillful, creative, strong, and versatile player, he is ranked among the best full-backs in African top leagues.

Rated highly as a promising Nigerian player in the media, Christian Molokwu is mainly known for his energy, speed and offensive capabilities, as well as his dribbling skills, technique, creativity and crossing ability. He is a full-back capable of playing as a winger on either flank, although he usually plays on the right.

When Molokwu is playing as a traditional full-back – in the right flank, he times his forward runs properly. He tends to move upward when in possession rather than making lung-busting overlapping runs around the outside of a teammate, and he prefers receiving to feet rather than chase through balls.

When he is with the ball, the Nigerian defender is equally capable of cutting infield from the right as he is going around the outside, and will regularly look to cross with his weaker left foot or move inside the opposing left-back and look to combine with those further forward.

The ex FC Ifeanyi Ubah and MFM FC man is a very strong dribbler and that ability, when combined with the fact he is confident on either foot, makes him extremely tough to defend against.

His pace also allow him to be fast enough to recover quickly at defensive transitions, and he is always aware of the space he leaves behind him when his team are attacking.
