FC Ifeanyi Ubah midfield star, Stephen Danjuma was finally given his long-awaited debut by Coach Uche Okagbue in the Nigeria Professional Football League and he starred in a narrow 1-0 win over Warri Wolves, yesterday Thursday, August 4.
With both teams already relegated to the second tier league in Nigeria football division, Okagbue named a star-studded starting eleven against a side they lost 3-1 to, during their first meeting.
Wing-back, Eric Oguocha fired home for the Anambra Warriors to put them ahead in the 20th minutes; a result which would go on to separate both sides at the end of 90minutes.
Coach Okagbue then decided to give a nod to some players who were yet to register their presence in the league and of the beneficiaries was Horvel Prime Football Academy graduate, Stephen Danjuma.
Danjuma came on for Lukuman Aliu in the 73rd minutes and wasted no time in winning the hearts of the home supporters with his brilliant and flashy touches.
That pass to Ekene Awazie in the 78th minutes warrants a rating no lower than 9 for the highly-rated maestro. He was clinical in his tackles, brilliant in reading the game, with a one-touch style combined with his long range vision that is truly one-of-a-kind in the history of this sport.
His positional intelligence and understudy of his teammates are truly unmatched. Stephen is a midfielder who thinks one step ahead and yesterday, he exhibited his brilliance, magical best, playing out each of the fundamental tasks of a modern-day defensive midfielder that makes him supremely good to perfection.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah will play in the Nigeria National League next season and it’s unlikely that some integral members of the squad will remain, with Danjuma inclusive.
