Gombe United goalkeeper Itodo Akor was happy with his cleansheet in their NPFL opening fixture of the season against Kwara United.
The experienced goalie was pleased with his own performance as well as the team’s resilience in their away first away test that ended 0-0 in Lagos.
The shotstopper was huge between the sticks at the weekend, claiming a point away from home.
Itodo made a huge 6 saves, the majority of them incredibly sharp as well as playing 12 accurate long balls. If it wasn’t for his goalkeeping brilliance it could’ve been a rain of goals at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena for the hosts.
“In general, it was a good game and we started very well,” he told Lodgexpress official website. “We had control of the game but couldn’t get the goal. It would have been nice to score two or three goals, but it’s a good result and we have to be happy with that.
“Kwara United on their part played well especially in the second half and had a few chances. A team like them are always dangerous when playing at home, even if they play with a man down. We had chances ourselves but it wasn’t our lucky day.
Reacting about his individual performance in his first game as Gombe United skipper, Itodo added;
“I just did what was expected of me to do – not concede any goal. There were some couple of shots which I caught or parried, but it’s always nice when you keep a clean sheet, especially in the first game of the season because it gives every member of the team the strength, courage and confidence that they can always have you to rely on when the game is tough.
