Gombe United Goalkeeper Itodo Akor says they deserved more after last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Plateau United.
Plateau United went ahead via Andrew Ikefe before Ibrahim Yahaya struck the visitors’ equaliser thanks to Ahmed Jimoh assist.
“We played good. Our backline was really good there – we didn’t let them have too many chances. I think we had the best chances in the game, actually – Yusuf (Abdulazeez) had more than two shots, Yahaya had about three… What can I say? With a little bit of luck, we could have won the game.” Itodo who was an unused substitute told Lodgexpress official website.
Quizzed as to whether the overall performance was Gombe United’s best so far this term, Itodo replied: “Yeah, I think it was one of those displays you’d wanna watch again. We created a lot of chances against a very, very good side. And with a little bit of luck we could have won the game.
“We were aware that, when the ball was dead, that’ll want to start really fast. We did well to push up and win the ball higher up the pitch, so we were closer to their goal as well. I think there were some good times in the game where we stole the ball from them and could have gotten on the score sheet. It was just the small bit that was missing.
“It’s a result that gives you a boost, when you see we can perform to a level like that. We just have to put in the hard work every day for the remaining fixtures. We know where we are in the table, so we just have to work hard to get higher than where we are now. But of course, this was a boost for us. It’s just unlucky we couldn’t get the three points here.”
