Gombe United captain Itodo Akor has praised the front players for their work off the ball after Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Shooting Stars.
Itodo who watched his side from the crowd is keen to share the praise for their defensive improvement under manager Aliyu Zubairu after Taye Yusuf struck a second half quick fire double before the visitors drew one back thanks to Gali Falke .
“The performance today was very good from the whole team,” he told Lodgexpress official website. “It was a fantastic effort. I know the lads had to suffer a bit but they had enough opportunities to win and they were very solid.
“They defended all together and the strikers did an amazing job with that too, which is what you need if you want to secure all three points especially when you score just once. When a team concede goals, it normally goes to the defenders and when they don’t concede it goes to the defenders as well but here we work as a team with our structure.
He went on to add;
“Obviously it is the responsibility of the backline to defend but we have to highlight the work from everybody and the attacking players did an amazing job. Shooting Stars ran a lot and had a lot of intensity so if you don’t match them then it’s difficult to win but we did really well.”
