Fleetwood Town United center-back Ikezue Sunday expresses interest in playing in Nigeria league

Nigerian footballer Sunday Ikezue West, has spoken of his desire to seal a switch to the Nigeria Premier Football League this mid-season transfer window.

Ikezue who plays as a center-back for Fleetwood Town United in UAE second tier, is keen on switching to the NPFL with reason being that he is looking for a new and exciting challenge and feels he has a story to complete in the Nigeria topflight division.

The versatile defender who is capable of playing across various defensive roles has always been a huge admirer of the Nigeria Premier Football League and feels he has all it takes to make a name for himself in his country’s league after excelling in United Arabs Emirates (UAE) where he captained Al-Ittifaq for two years between 2020-2022 before sealing a move to Fleetwood Town United for the 2022/23 season.

“The NPFL is one of the most exciting and competitive leagues in Africa,” Ikezue told Lodgexpress.com correspondent in Dubai during an exclusive interview.

“Every player wants to make a name for himself in his country’s league, where they have the big crowds and the coverage.

“Very many successful Nigerian players came through the ranks in Nigeria football. A player like the current Super Eagles captain and legend, (Ahmed) Musa, is a great testimony.

“I am very fast and technically very good. All the players in the NPFL have those qualities so I can make a name for myself there.”

Ikezue also admits he would be open to offers from NPFL teams as the UAE league nears it’s completion for the 2022/2023 campaign and would also be delighted to play for any of the League’s top sides.

When asked which team he likes, Ikezue replied: “Rangers – they gave me the first experience in Nigeria topflight football, Akwa United, Enyimba, Remo Stars, Plateau United and Bendel Insurance are all good teams, even Lobi Stars, and Nasarawa United are all really good.”
