Enyimba versatile attacker Eze ‘Happy’ Ekwutoziam was delighted with his role in victory over Akwa United last Sunday.
Ekwutoziam laid on the second goal for Victor Mbaoma to convert on the afternoon.

He later told Lodgexpress.com, “We’re fully aware that as defending champions, any game in the league this season is going to be difficult. Akwa made it very difficult for us, they’ve got quality players. We were patient and waited for our moment. We missed a couple of chances, but made the most of the set-piece. I’m happy to be more involved with the team and to help set up Victor’s goal.
“Every squad member is full of confidence. We’ve got some of the highest quality players and they’re proving that they can be at their best at any given moment. It was really important to pick up points in our opening fixture of the season. We have to focus on the next massive continental game because it’s going to be a great game.
On his assistant to Mbaoma, he added:
“I’m really delighted. I was sure I wanted to attack the near post and I couldn’t get a shot on goal. I tried to help it on because we’ve got some beasts who arrive in the back. I then signalled Victor to stay close and he read it very well. I’m happy to play a part in that goal which was worth three points.”
