Doma United center-back Nelson Abiam admits he copied iconic Italian midfielder Andrea Pirlo’s free-kick approach for his strike against Shooting Stars.

The Nigerian free-kick specialist who has now scored 9 free kick goals since 2021, scored his first Doma United goal as the Savannah Tigers suffered a 3-1 loss in Ibadan on Sunday.

The former Wikki Tourists and Nasarawa United man picked out the far corner with a superb free-kick from the edge of the box to double open the scoring for Doma United.

“I saw that the goalkeeper wanted to come forward and also noticed the movement of the wall and the space they created then I targeted it and thankfully it went in,” explained Abiam to Lodgexpress official website.

“I saw recently that Pirlo and Ronaldinho had scored this way. I had some doubts, but I gave it a go and it went well.”

“I work hard to improve on my set pieces so I was delighted to be given that responsibility today. Fortunately for me it did went in but we dropped off once we got in front.

“We did well in parts but overall we’re disappointed that we’re not leaving with all three points.
