Rivers United winger Deputy Echeta was delighted being part of a 2-0 victory over Remo Stars on Thursday evening.
This marked the sixth consecutive year and ninth consecutive game that Remo Stars failed to secure a win against Rivers United. The match was Rivers United’s rescheduled fixture for matchday one after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Niger Tornadoes on matchday two.
It was also an exciting day for Echeta as he made his first appearance at home in the club’s colors.
“It was an important victory and one that we deserved from start to finish”, said Echeta, who was frustrated with the defeat last Sunday against Niger Tornadoes at Ahmadu Bello Stadium.
“Against Tornadoes, we also had many chances, which would have earned us a point, hence the defeat. We were frustrated because we could have avoided a defeat.
“In the first half today, we had a couple of chances that, if converted, would have given us some calm. We finally took one before halftime and had to fight hard to add the second. Again, the important thing is that we secured the victory.”
About his first game at home, Echeta added, “It’s a fantastic feeling to contribute to a win in front of our home fans. I’m thrilled to have been a part of this unbeaten streak against Remo Stars, and I look forward to more successful matches with this incredible team.”
