Bayelsa Utd defender Yinusa Sheriff happy with ‘hard fought victory’ against Sunshine Stars

Bayelsa United defender Yinusa Sheriff was delighted after their crucial 2-1 win against Sunshine Stars on Sunday.

An own goal from the visitors’ player 3 minutes before regulation time secured the three points for the hosts and placed them in a comfortable spot to beat the drop this season.

Bayelsa United had gone in front after 60 minutes through Ayiba Edwin. Sunshine Stars equalised through a Achi Nnaemeka goal. Then an own goal in the 87th minute gave the hosts the winner.

“Beforehand this was a tough fixture and I think everyone who have played against them knows that,” the center-back told Lodgexpress.com after the final whistle.

“They have a clear game plan, very direct, second balls, a hard fight, and I think we dealt with it all of those pretty well while also playing out our style. I’m very delighted to take the three points with us even though it was a hard-fought and scrappy victory.

“They kept doing what they always do, 1-0 is a little bit dangerous because if they score one – like they did – they are going to go for it and believe it, so I think they held on to that [belief] in the second half and obviously after we scored to made it 2-1 late in the match it was game over.”

Bayelsa United will play their final two games of the season against Rivers United (away) and Niger Tornadoes (home) and are currently placed 8th on group B standing with 18 points from 16 games.
