Sunshine Stars center-back Anthony Anioke was delighted with their clean sheet for victory over high flying side, Plateau United on Sunday.

The Owena Whales secured a 1-0 win courtesy of Kolade Adeniji goal in the 76th minute which also brought Plateau United’s impressive 12-game unbeaten run to an end.

It was Anioke who did a superb job of marshalling the Sunshine Stars backline to another clean sheet despite the absence of his center-back pair, David Sholumade who left for Akwa United during the mid-season transfer window.

Anioke told Lodgexpress during his post-game presser; “It was tough but we eventually got the goal.

“Our main objective is always not to concede a goal because by doing that, there’re chances that we could come up with a goal or share the spoils. We defended really well and even if they were down to ten, it’s never easy.

“We were able to score and also keep a clean sheet which means a lot. You need to give the boys all the credit with what they’re doing. We wanted to score more, to be very honest but it’s all good, the three points is all that matters.”
