Andrew Ikefe confident Plateau United will hold their nerve in title pursuit

Centerback Andrew Ikefe is convinced Plateau United have the mental strength to prove themselves genuine challengers for the NPFL title this season. He is in no doubt the Peace Boys have what it takes to overtake Rivers United before the end of the season.

Nevertheless Ikefe was rock solid in defence alongside Ibrahim Buhari, keeping Wikki Tourists relatively impotent in front of goal despite the visitors managing just one goal in the 3-1 win. Ikefe in total made a couple of brilliant clearances, frustrated 75% of Wikki Tourists’ counter-attacking play and won all the aerial duels he was involved in.

In a crucial game where Plateau United needed a victory to close the gap on Rivers United, Ikefe stood tall in the typically robust Fidelis Ilechukwu’s defence.

“We have to show everyone that we want to answer (our critics) on the pitch and nothing else,” the Nigerian defender told Lodgexpress after the game.

“The results is the most important (thing) for us. If after all we’re doing, the people don’t think we can finish first then it is not our problem, but I’m rest assured we have a good chance to win the league this very season.”
