Remo Stars attacker Samuel Anaekwe says that the Sky Blues’ win over Bayelsa United on Sunday was the perfect response to their defeat at Rivers United on Thursday.
Adams Olamilekan and Sikiru Alimi got the goals in the 2-1 win as the Ikenne-based club secured their first away victory of the season.
“We created some good chances and we defended very well when we had to,” Anaekwe told Lodgexpress.com.
“It was a close game and I thought there was some fantastic football being played out there by both teams. Ultimately, we were delighted with the massive result.
“Things don’t always go to plan and that was the case in the Rivers United game, but we needed a response and this was a huge game. It is a massive result against a very, very good team that scored five here on their opening day fixture. It is probably physically one of the hardest victories we’ve recorded, which shows you they asked a lot of questions. The concentration level had to be high, and they gave us a tough game.
“Naturally as the game went on, Bayelsa United were pushing and committing more men forward, and but things turned around after they got reduced to ten men and we knew it was the perfect opportunity to push back and it worked fantastically well for us. It was a fantastic response from us.”
