Akwa United attacker Wisdom Fernando felt they played with great maturity to achieve victory over Enyimba on Sunday.
An Uche Collins second half header from a James Ajako assist was enough for the Promise Keepers to grind out their 7th win of the season.
He told Lodgexpress official website: “We have never had an easy game against Enyimba. I thought defensively we looked good today and we’re really happy with the performance.
“We didn’t let ourselves get surprised. Sometimes it’s just a matter of being patient and the goals will come.”
He continued: “We’ve played maybe one bad 90 minutes so far this season – against Bendel Insurance at home. Today we didn’t maybe impress at half-time but we did what we had to do.”
The speedster also had special words for man of the match Uche Collins.
Fernando said of the goalscorer: “Uche is a striker with tremendous potential. We believe a lot in him and I think he played an extraordinary game today, that everything went well for him. And then all this happens because his decision making and positioning sense is correct. Today he got another winning goal and he is enjoying himself, and everyone here too.”
