Akwa United new signing Christopher Nwaeze felt grateful after making his debut for the club over the weekend.
Nwaeze, signed from Kwara United during the mid-season transfer, started in a 1-1 draw with Rivers United at Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Saturday.
“I feel really grateful for the chance and am really delighted with how I played – I had to take it with both hands and I feel like I did,” Nwaeze told Lodgexpress website.
“I’m extremely delighted – I’ve been waiting a long time and I now feel like I’ve done alright.
Speaking about his defensive pair, Orji Kalu, Nwaeze added;
“It’s easy to play beside [Orji Kalu] – he’s such a good player and such a great professional. He’s really easy going to play alongside, and I’m looking forward to pairing with Samson Gbadebo as well.
“Rivers United is a good side and we pushed them for a win – we set the tone from our end and that helps the boys up top, and we did that today could have gotten the win.
“We just need that bit of luck – we’re creating chances and defending well – it’s just the final third.
“We just need that bit of luck but I’m sure it will come – and I know the lads are sure of it as well.”
