Abia Warriors defender Prince Okorie has hailed his attacking teammates after a narrow 2-1 victory over Sunshine Stars on Sunday.

Abia Warriors now sit at fourth position on the group B with just one point separating them from third place side, Doma United and two points adrift second placed Rivers United – who have a game at hand.

And center-back Okorie produced a dominant performance against Sunshine Stars as they held on for a significant victory. The defender had a great afternoon at Umuahia Township Stadium making 5 interceptions, 4 clearances and a couple of crucial blocks.

In his post-game interview with Lodgexpress official website, Prince Okorie said; “It is great to have players like Ojonugwa [Adejoh], Bello [Lukman], Moses [Uche] and Kalu [Nweke], in front of you, the way they can change games so quickly.

“That gives you confidence at the back, knowing if you do not let goals in, you will get chances at the front.

“We controlled the game against Sunshine Stars, dominated possession and were in total control as well. While we could have scored more, it was one of our best performances of the season.

On Ojonugwa’s brace, Okorie added;

“Ojonugwa just improvised really well for the first goal and that immediately got us off to a great start after he scored the second one in less than three minutes.

“Lukman, Kalu and Ojonugwa combined pretty great together both off and on the ball. The speed of our attacking play was tremendous and we can only be proud of the victory even though it was hard fought.”
