Two police officials are currently nursing their wounds after gunmen attacked the Mbieri divisional police headquarters on Wednesday night, April 7.
Orlando Ikeokwu, spokesman of the Imo State Police Command who confirmed the attack, said the gunmen raided the police headquarters at about 10pm but the attack was successfully repelled by the Policemen on ground. He added that the two Police personnel who sustained injuries during the attack are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed medical facility.
Police stations in Imo state have come under attacks by gunmen in recent times. Just this past Monday, April 5, the state police headquarters was attacked by heavily armed and unidentified gunmen. The gunmen also attacked the state correctional facility and freed over 1800 inmates.
While the police allege that IPOB members are behind the attacks, the state governor, Hope Uzodinma, said disgruntled politicians and not IPOB members are behind the various attacks.
