Senate directs IGP to investigate disappearance of NSCDC Deputy Commandant

The National Assembly Senate on Wednesday January 25, asked the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, to probe the sudden disappearance of the Deputy Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Raymond Terwase Gaadi.

Gaadi who was meant to assume role at the Bayelsa State command, went missing after arriving in October 2022.

Mr Terkura Gaadi, his elder brother, stated that after missing Raymond’s calls on October 22, 2022, he couldn’t reach him, as his phones rang off the hook until October 30th when all the lines were switched off.

The resolution of the Senate follows a motion by the lawmaker representing Benue North West Senatorial District, who is the Deputy chairman Judiciary, Human rights and legal matters, Senator Emmanuel Yisa Orker Jev.

Terwase is an indigene of Shorov, Buruku local Government area of Benue State, a council in Orker Jev constituency.

While presenting the motion tag ‘matter of urgent public importance’, the Senator who come under order 41 and 51 noted that Terwase Gaadi is a deputy commandant with the Nigeria security and civil defense corps ( Nscdc) posted to Yenagoa, Bayelsa state and has gone missing since October 2022.

He further said that there was resistance from the officer that was to hand over to him and then suddenly the man was reported to be missing.

Senator Jev stated that Mr Terwase phoned his family and friends to inform them that the officer from whom he was supposed to take over was not only resisting handover but was threatening him.

According to him, two days after the call to his family and friends by the deputy commandant, an unidentified caller informed the family that Terwase Gaadi had gone missing. Since the October call, nothing has been heard of or from Terwase Gaadi.

The Senator said the NSCDC authorities who should have taken more interest than a passing interest in the wherebouts of their officer, have displayed shocking nonchalance over the matter nor the family aware of any police intervention on the matter leaving everyone to speculate what may have become of him.

The senate resolved to urge the commandant of the NSCDC to direct an internal investigation into the matter.

The lawmakers also urged the IGP to direct a full criminal investigation into Gaadi’s disappearance.
