Abdullahi Mohammed, son of Bauchi State Governor, has said that the incessant school Kidnappings in Northern Nigeria are orchestrated by people who are not comfortable with the educational development in the region.
Abdullahi disclosed this on his Instagram on Wednesday, March 17, following the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in a primary school in Rema, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
This has led to the closure of not fewer than 618 schools in six northern states over the fear of attack and abductions of pupils and members of the staff
According to Abdullahi, the Northern region has been the most educationally disadvantaged region for many years but there has been a tremendous growth since 2010.
He, nevertheless, said certain people are scared of this growth because education means freedom and they want people of the north to remain illiterates
“Educationally, the North is the most backward region in Nigeria. The situation was worse decades ago,” he wrote.
“Statistically, education started booming and growing since 2010 in the North. Some people are not comfortable with this trend. So they want to destroy it finally by creating fear among pupils and parents. Because education brings liberation and some people will do anything to maintain the staus quo.”
