The government of Imo state has accused ex governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, of being behind the recent attacks on some state-owned facilities in Owerri, the state capital.
According to Sahara Reporters, Declan Emelumba, the state Commissioner for Information, in a statement issued, alleged that the former governor and present Senator, employed the services of thugs whom he had granted amnesty to unleash terror on the state. He stated that the state government was also in possession of information on how a Special Adviser to the former governor procured the thugs that invaded Owerri on Monday April 5, attacking the state police headquarters as well as the Owerri Custodial center.
Emelumba added that the aim of Okorocha is to cause the state to be in crisis so that the Federal government will be forced to declare a state of emergency.
He also alledged that the ex governor wants to get back at Governor Hope Uzodinma who insisted on the implementation of the White Paper that indicted him for allegedly stealing from the state treasury and grabbing people’s lands when he, Okorocha, served as governor of the state.
“Recall that the man had gone to court to stop the commission from sitting. When that failed, he approached Governor Uzodinma to disband the panels.
“When that failed, he resorted to violence to repossess property government had sealed. That is the motive for the attacks,” the commissioner said
Emelumba who displayed a purported copy of a press statement by the Northern youths where they castigated Uzodinma but lauded Okorocha, said it was not rocket science for people to know the person behind the attacks.
He added that it was not a coincidence that the former governor had not condemned the attacks.
“How come the former governor is not condemning the attacks if not because it is his brainchild”the statement added
