The Mile 3 Market traders in Diobu, Port Harcourt, have nabbed a yet-to-be identified man who is reported to be in possession of N1.3 million naira new notes in the market.
A trader, identified as Rachael Jabin, told The Guardian that the man suspected to be a member of fake new naira note gang with another member of the syndicate had visited the market making purchases at different shops.
According to Jabin, some traders who the man purchased goods from later learnt that the new naira note given to them were fake and started trailing him and other members of his gang. She stated that one of the men was caught by the traders and other customers in the market.
The executives of the market rescued the man from the irate mob who wanted to lynch him. The suspect was then handed over to the Nkpolu Divisional Police headquarters, Mile 3, but it was not clear if the counterfeit money were given to the police by the market executives.
The Chairman of the Mile 3 Ultra modern market, Gift Nkesi, who spoke through the head of the disciplinary committee of the market, Ibe Athinatus, said the executives did well to rescue the man from mob.
Athinatus also denied that the executives collected N1.3 million fake new naira notes from the suspect.
