Some unknown gunmen on Wednesday March 3, attacked two checkpoints of the Nigerian Police Force in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State and struck down at least six policemen and a soldier.
The attack this early morning happened at Ofotura communities, where two officers were shot and killed while another four officers were also murdered at Oyadama check point. All their arms were taken away by the hoodlums, CroosRiverWatch reports.
Irene Ugbo, spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, who confirmed the attack to Daily Trust stated that officers were killed while their arms were carted away.
Amongst those killed include a popular Inspector Best Okereke, a native of Imabana community in neighboring Abi Local Government Area whose fingers got chopped off before being shot in the chest.
A soldier stationed at another checkpoint was said to have been shot in the hand but passed away several hours later.
This comes barely a week after four police operatives were shot dead at Idundu axis of Calabar.
