A police official was said to be shot on Tuesday morning, April 12 while trying to foil the kidnapping of some locals of Tungan-Maje community in Gwagwalada Area Council of Abuja.
A local of the community identified as Ibrahim Saidu who spoke with Daily Trust, said the gunmen who first attacked residents of Anguwar Samu in Tungan-Maje, engaged both members of the vigilante and the police in a shootout.
It was alleged that the gunmen who overpowered the security operatives in the gunfight that lasted over an hour whisked away two people, before reportedly proceeding to New Poultry area of the council where they also abducted two residents.
“The entire residents of Anguwar Samu were gripped with fear because of the gunshots but unfortunately, they succeeded in abducting two people.”
The police personnel and a vigilante member who sustained gunshot wounds during the incident have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
