2023: Gov. Buni calls out Obasanjo over call to cancel election

Mai Mala Buni, the Yobe State Governor, has slammed former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

He blasted Obasanjo over his recent comment calling for the cancellation of the 2023 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Buni said Obasanjo’s statement was capable of inciting violence across the country and undermining the nation’s democracy.

The Governor, who stated this during a meeting with traditional rulers, Caretaker chairmen and critical stakeholders at the Government House, also opined that the just concluded presidential and National Assembly elections were the most cleanest, credible and fairest election ever in the history of the country.

Governor Buni who was represented at the meeting by his Deputy, Idi Barde Gubana said over the years violence and crisis experienced before, during and after elections were mainly orchestrated by enemies of the country.

He tasked the monarchs to sensitize their subjects to disregard any provocative and inciting comments meant to cause division and disunity.

According to Buni, the meeting is to review security measures to ensure a hitch-free governorship and state assembly election, come 11th March, 2023.

The Speaker Yobe state House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Ahmad Lawan Mirwa and ALGON Chairman, Hon Bukar Adamu, while commenting separately, appealed to the electorates in the state to vote wisely.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Emir of Fika and Chairman Yobe state council of traditional rulers, Alhaji Dr. Mohammad Abali ibn Muhammad idrissa assured that traditional rulers would not relent in their efforts to sensitize their subjects to achieve a peaceful exercise.
