Three persons have been reportedly killed by bandits who attacked some communities in Niger state on the Sunday morning of January 24.
The bandits who stormed communities like old and new Dalolo, Beni, Aboloso, Ishau and Amale communities in Paikoro local government as well as Gwari Nyayi, Kabiri and Biri in Munya local government area, also Kidnapped 15 women.
15 people were reportedly injured in the process carried as the bandits raided the communities numbering over 200 and riding in over 50 motorcycles in three different groups.
Alhaji Jafaru Umar Sarki, District Head of Beni, confirmed the attack and also disclosed that it lasted for one hour on Saturday evening with the bandits looting houses and shops for foodstuff.
According to reports, the Bandits returned on Sunday morning and moved from one community to another targeting only foodstuffs and provisions from shops in an operation that lasted for three hours.
Sarki disclosed that during the process of the operation, a helicopter was hovering around the communities but left immediately the bandits were through. He also disclosed that the 15 women kidnapped, were made to carry the looted foodstuffs from the communities by the bandits who promised to release them afterwards.
The district head said;
“We saw a helicopter moving around the communities when the bandits were operating but the helicopter did not attack the bandits.
“We did not know what the helicopter was doing in the air because bandits were operating freely on the ground.
“Immediately the bandits left, we did not see the helicopter again, so we don’t know whether it was providing cover for the bandit or to attack the bandits.”
