FC Ifeanyi Ubah travel to face Nasarawa United in the Matchday 12 fixture after a dominating 3-0 home victory against Katsina United over the weekend.
Highly rated teenage prodigy, Emmanuel Uchegu and Nonso Nzediegwu were all on target for the host side with the Matchday 12 opponents, Nasarawa United slumping to a 1-0 defeat away from home to Jigawa Golden Stars.
The result leaves Nasarawa United in 7th position with 17 points from 11 games with their visitors sitting 17th on the log having wrapped up 12 points from same number of matches played so far. Only 5 points separates the two teams.
So to FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s chances, anything is possible and everyone have to be optimistic. Here are those players we should be looking out for and those that would be key against Nasarawa United.
The shotstopper has been heavily tested more often and have so much impressed this season. He will be a joy to watch. He had a nice game in the 3-0 victory over Katsina United and will need to be in good shape to continue his clean sheet.
Touted the ‘Defense Minister’, many believe the defender is the lynchpin of FC Ifeanyi Ubah backline having formed a solid partnering with Tochukwu Anueyiagu.
Although some of his decision making have been questionable earlier in the season, Abel is a natural leader and the most physical defender at the club. He is needed by Coach Uche Okagbue to be on his game and at his best if they are to stop the Nasarawa United attack.
Without a doubt the best player of the season for FC Ifeanyi Ubah to this point, a steal from Remo Stars and someone who has flourished under Uche Okagbue since his arrival. Blessed with skill and ability but with a willingness to work hard without the ball, Ekene will need to be an influence in front of Nasarawa United back four AND moving forward with the ball if his side are to make a sensational back-to-back win. Quite a lot has been said and written of the playmaker, but in my view, he is now just as important.
The trickery attacker has really hit the ground running this season at FC Ifeanyi Ubah only to have his progress curtailed by poor run on form. The break-in game time has given him a chance to recover, get himself fit, and really to play the remaining games which is a massive bonus for FC Ifeanyi Ubah. He was impressive in his side’s 3-0 defeat over Katsina United, getting on the scoresheet for the second goal in the 48th minutes.
We can go on to talk all day about FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s attacking players but if we are to have lots of chances in the game, we need to score goals. I personally believe their backline will need to be on their toes as long as teenage sensation, Emmanuel Uchegbu is on the pitch.
Uchegbu has already had an outstanding season so far, bagging a brace in 3-0 humiliation of Katsina United barely days after scooping the King of the Match award in his maiden appearance in the Nigeria Professional Football League. Goals in this one would be sensational.
Against Nasarawa United, the versatile FC Ifeanyi Ubah player will need to be at his best to break up the home side’s counter attacks. Molokwu is FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s Mr Reliable and regularly puts in seven-out-of-ten performances in the heart of attack.
Since last season, Molokwu has developed more of an attacking threat and occasionally pops up with a goal or assist, but Wednesday’s task will be purely to hold the fort and launch the attacks from the right flank. He got the assistfor his side’s second goal in 3-0 defeat of Katsina United.
As always, the highly rated left-back has continued to impress this season which is why he’s cemented his starting berth in Coach Okagbue’s starting eleven. The high flying wing-back whipped in some great crosses and teed up u well with Emmanuel Uchegbu for the third goal in 3-0 victory over Katsina United over the weekend.
