High flying FC Ifeanyi Ubah wing-back, Evans Ogbonda has set up 11 goals for his side so far this season, a record assist for a left-back on his debut season in Nigeria Professional Football League.
His impressive start to life in the League continues to demonstrate after Wednesday’s victory over Adamawa United where he setup goals for Ekene Awazie and James Abel.
It is nevertheless a stat that has made him stand out as the best left-back in the league so far this season and also being one of the key components in manager Uche Okagbue’s setup since joining at the beginning of the campaign.
He is particularly decisive in attack. In fact, though being a defender, his blistering pace down the flank is second to none when compared with other left-backs in the league this season and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he’s pushed upfront anytime soon.
Looking at the top players in the NPFL this current campaign, Evans Ogbonda is the highest-ranked Anambra Warrior, with 11 assists to his name.
Evans’ first assist this year came back in December in win over Lobi Stars in the league and before the end of the first quarter of the season in April, he had boasted of six assists. Coming into this second quarter, the left-back has added five more for his side. A particular assist was his brilliant chipping pass to co-defender James Abel for the third goal on Sunday’s Adamawa United triumph.
The duo of Ekene Awazie and Nonso Nzediegwu are the players who have benefitted most from Evans’ assists. The attackers have made a combined total of 13 goals this term thanks to Evans brilliance.
Next on the list of Evans beneficiaries is Molokwu, with 4 goals, his last coming in the 3-1 league loss against Warri Wolves.
Evans will hope to continue his impressive season when his side visits Katsina United on Sunday.
