FC Ifeanyi Ubah really deserved their 2-1 victory against Kwara United on Sunday, June 9 at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium in what was a keenly contested encounter.
Easy matches don’t come around in the Nigeria Professional Football League very often and Coach Uche Okagbue’s FC Ifeanyi Ubah are one of the most improved teams since the restart of the season.
They’re now 18th on the log with 25 points from 26 games after beating Kwara United, thanks to a brace from Ekene Awazie.
It was the skipper of the Anambra Warriors, Uche Onuoha who stole the show with his blistering runs and was involved in the 85th minutes winner from Awazie following his spectacular assist.
And reacting after the match during his press conference via video call, Onuoha said;
“It was quite a fantastic game for us all and most especially the three points, I return the glory to God.
“As the captain, I had to give more than my best in ensuring we come out victorious right there in front of our home supporters. The match was really tough, quite similar to what happened in the first leg at Illorin where they got a late minute winner, we just repaid them the favor.
“After they equalized us in the 28th minutes, I was more eager to get the team’s moral up and firing. I looked around and heard the emotion from the chants of the fans, they really needed the victory, then I remembered my promise to them – that we will not get relegated, I had to charge the team and when I had the chance to give Ekene the assist, I couldn’t waste anytime.
“It’s a pass and skill we’ve been putting into practice very often in training and it paved way when we needed it. I’m really grateful I must admit”.
