Anambra Warriors striker, Uche Onuoha has lauded the spirit of his FC Ifeanyi Ubah teammates after their 3-0 thumping victory at home against Adamawa United on Wednesday, June 31.
After the club’s slight 1-0 defeat away from home to Kano Pillars on matchday 29 of the season, Onuoha – known as Sabbath to many – and other FC Ifeanyi Ubah squad were under pressure to get a victory in Nnewi to bolster their hopes of escaping relegation this season.
And speaking to Lodgexpress sports correspondent, Faith Onwukwe, the skipper detailed how the team had put in extra efforts in training the week before in order to put themselves in the best shape to welcome a victory.
“We are aware of our situation in the league this term and at this dire moment, every single point counts which is why we always go out there to fight to win every game,” he said.
“But so far we’ve experienced quite enough to cope with it, we are winners and we give in our best on the training ground to return to winning ways, and I must say we did it in a difficult game.
Going on to speak about FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s preparation before the match, Onuoha spoke about his teammate, Evans Ogbonda and his ability to create goal chances.
“Evans has this ability to give a perfect final pass. This season he provided 11 brilliant assists in his first experience in the league and that has really amounted to 70% of the team’s success while playing from wing-back.
“Yesterday Wednesday, he showed his class with a brace assist. He trains these quite frequently and most times he he tells everyone how he hopes to move upfront very soon. In the 14th minutes, he teed up Ekene Awazie for the opener before going on to setup Abel for the third goal”.
Onuoha was subbed off after half-time following a presumed injury problem and will be a doubt when his side jet out to play Katsina United three days later in matchday 31.
