FC Ifeanyi Ubah have added a host of attacking talent this term, who have been rightly applauded on their impressive performances – but it was defender James Abel who provided the big moment with his power header from an Evans assist in 3-0 thrashing of Adamawa United on Wednesday afternoon.
His aerial presence has been a small detail which has had a huge impact for the Anambra Warriors this season, with him seemingly winning everything in both boxes.
It has led to him being nicknamed Air Marshall by fans if FC Ifeanyi Ubah. His presence at the backline alongside Tochukwu Anueyiagu has turned Uche Okagbue’s previously weak defence into a one solid and capable of causing real trouble for opponents.
He told Lodgexpress after the game;
“I’m delighted and so is everyone.
“We knew it was going to be difficult owing to the fact that Adamawa United had recorded some impressive results sequel to this game. They’re are a great team but we followed the coaches instructions and kept the belief while playing our game.
“We really should have scored more than once more in the first half, we were the better side and had the most chances, but at the end, it finished 3-0 and, lest I forget, I’m really really to have finally opened my scoring account for this team, I’ve made lots of attempts and it got it. I just believe it will pave way for more headers to get in.
“I’m doing all my best to help the team as fight off relegation and I believe personally I can be a threat when they’re set-pieces. I put in extra work hard in training both on the pitch and in the gym and I must commend the team’s technical staff who’ve been really helpful.
“We’re aware of our struggle this season and also sure we can bag as much goals, either from open plays or set-pieces. It’s really working that way and we must keep it going like that.”
